Dough
Filling
- 4 oz vegan cream cheese
- 1/4 cup sugar (or xylitol)
- 1/2 tbsp lemon juice
- 1/4 tsp pure vanilla extract (optional)
Topping
- 1/2 cup homemade cherry pie filling
- 1/3 cup pure maple syrup (or agave)
- Prepare the filling: In a food processor or with beaters, blend the vegan cream cheese, sugar, lemon juice, and optional vanilla extract until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
- Preheat and prepare dough: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Open the crescent roll containers and unroll the dough. Slice each roll widthwise into twelve equal sections.
- Create wells in dough: Using your fingers or the back of a spoon, press deep wells into the center of each dough section. These wells will hold the filling, so make them as deep as possible without tearing the dough.
- Brush with syrup and fill: Brush the surface of each dough piece lightly with maple syrup or agave. Then, spoon about one tablespoon of the cream cheese filling into each well, followed by a few teaspoons of the cherry pie filling on top.
- Bake: Place the filled dough pieces on a lined or greased baking tray. Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 18 minutes or until the dough is golden brown and cooked through.
- Cool and glaze: Remove from the oven and allow the Danish pastries to cool. Once cooled, drizzle the remaining cream cheese mixture or maple syrup over the top for added flavor and sweetness.
- Serve: Enjoy these vegan Danish pastries warm or at room temperature, perfect for breakfast, brunch, or dessert.
Notes
- Using a food processor or electric beaters helps achieve a smooth cream cheese filling.
- If you don’t have homemade cherry pie filling, store-bought cherry pie filling works well too.
- Make sure to create deep wells in the dough to prevent the filling from spilling over during baking.
- For a less sweet option, reduce the sugar or substitute with a sugar alternative like xylitol.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days, or refrigerate for up to 5 days.
