Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients:

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

Wet Ingredients:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed light-brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs

Mix-ins:

  • 2 cups semisweet and/or milk chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Prepare Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour and baking soda. Set aside.
  3. Cream Wet Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter, granulated sugar, and light-brown sugar until light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes).
  4. Combine Wet Ingredients: Mix in the salt and vanilla extract until well combined. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  5. Incorporate Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients in three parts, mixing on low speed until just combined.
  6. Add Mix-ins: Gently fold in the chocolate chips and chopped nuts (if using). Chill the dough for at least 30 minutes in the refrigerator.
  7. Prepare Baking Sheets: Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  8. Bake: Portion out the dough onto the prepared baking sheets, leaving space between each cookie. Press extra chocolate chips on top of each cookie if desired. Bake for 10-12 minutes until golden brown and slightly soft.
  9. Cool and Store: Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week or freeze for longer storage.
  10. Reheat and Serve: Reheat in the microwave for 10-15 seconds or in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for a few minutes. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

  • You can customize the mix-ins by using different types of chocolate chips or adding dried fruits.
  • For extra flavor, consider adding a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg to the dough.
  • To achieve a chewier texture, slightly underbake the cookies and let them cool on the baking sheet.
