These Pumpkin Glazed Donuts with Crumb Topping combine the warm, comforting flavors of pumpkin and spice cake with a sweet vanilla glaze and a crunchy crumb topping. Perfect for fall mornings or festive gatherings, this easy-to-make recipe uses a boxed spice cake mix with canned pumpkin to create moist, flavorful donuts that everyone will love.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Donuts

  • 1 15.25 oz box spice cake mix
  • ¾ cup canned pumpkin puree (NOT pumpkin pie filling)
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 tablespoons melted butter

For the Crumb Topping

  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons Quaker Quick Oats

For the Glaze

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Crumb Topping: In a bowl, mix brown sugar, flour, and pumpkin pie spice. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in the quick oats. Set aside.
  2. Make the Donut Batter: In a large mixing bowl, combine the spice cake mix, canned pumpkin puree, eggs, and melted butter. Stir until just combined and the batter is smooth.
  3. Fill the Donut Pan: Lightly grease a donut pan. Spoon the batter evenly into the pan cavities, filling each about ⅔ full. Sprinkle the crumb topping generously over each donut.
  4. Bake the Donuts: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the donuts for 15-18 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Remove from oven and allow to cool in the pan for 5 minutes.
  5. Cool Completely: Transfer the donuts to a wire rack and let them cool completely before glazing.
  6. Prepare the Glaze: In a small bowl, combine powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract. Whisk until smooth and pourable. Add more milk or powdered sugar to reach desired consistency.
  7. Glaze the Donuts: Dip the top of each cooled donut into the glaze or spoon it over the donuts. Let the glaze set for about 15 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Do not use pumpkin pie filling; use pure canned pumpkin for the best texture and flavor.
  • You can substitute butter with a non-dairy alternative to make the recipe dairy-free, but this may affect texture.
  • Store leftover donuts in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
  • For a more intense pumpkin flavor, add a teaspoon of pumpkin pie spice to the donut batter.
  • Make sure to let the donuts cool completely before glazing to prevent the glaze from melting off.
