Ingredients

Scale

Cake Batter:

  • 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (240ml) milk

Apple Filling:

  • 4 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1/4 cup (50g) packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Additional:

  • Powdered sugar (for dusting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Prepare the apples: In a bowl, combine sliced apples with brown sugar, vanilla extract, lemon juice, and nutmeg. Set aside.
  3. Make the batter: Cream together butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well. In a separate bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt. Alternate adding dry ingredients and milk to the butter mixture.
  4. Assemble the cake: Pour half the batter into the baking dish, layer with the apple mixture, then top with the remaining batter.
  5. Bake: Bake for 45–50 minutes until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  6. Cool and serve: Let the cake cool in the pan before transferring to a wire rack. Dust with powdered sugar before serving, if desired.

Notes
