Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour or substitute with whole wheat flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp cinnamon (optional, for cinnamon bagels)

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup Greek yogurt (thick consistency recommended)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

Optional Toppings

  • Everything bagel seasoning
  • Cinnamon
  • Shredded cheese
  • Garlic & herbs
  • Chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat & Prep: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat to prevent sticking and make clean-up easier.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. If you want cinnamon bagels, add 2 tsp of cinnamon at this stage and mix well.
  3. Incorporate Yogurt: Add the Greek yogurt to the dry ingredients. Use a spatula to stir until a rough dough forms. Then knead the dough gently with your hands until it’s smooth and fully combined.
  4. Shape the Bagels: Lightly flour your work surface. Divide the dough into 4 equal portions. For each portion, roll it into a ball and slightly flatten it. Create a hole in the center of the dough by pushing through with a spoon handle or by rolling the dough into a log and joining the ends together to form a ring.
  5. Egg Wash & Toppings: Whisk the egg in a small bowl and brush it evenly over the tops of each bagel. Sprinkle your preferred toppings such as everything bagel seasoning, shredded cheese, or chocolate chips immediately after.
  6. Bake: Place the bagels on the prepared baking sheet spaced evenly apart. Bake in the preheated oven for 22-25 minutes or until the bagels are golden brown on top and cooked through.
  7. Cool & Serve: Remove from the oven and allow the bagels to cool slightly on a wire rack before slicing and serving. Enjoy warm or at room temperature.

Notes

  • Use thick Greek yogurt for best dough consistency; avoid watery yogurts.
  • Feel free to substitute all-purpose flour with whole wheat flour for added fiber.
  • Add cinnamon to dough for a sweet twist, or use savory toppings like garlic and herbs.
  • Brush bagels carefully with egg wash for a shiny, golden finish.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days; reheat before serving.
