Cake:
- 3 cups (390g) cake flour, spooned and leveled
- 1 ¾ cups (350g) granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 12 tablespoons (180g) unsalted butter, room temperature
- ⅓ cup (80mL) vegetable oil
- ¾ cup (180mL) whole milk, room temperature
- 1 teaspoon white vinegar
- 1 cup (240g) full-fat sour cream, room temperature
- 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
- 4 large eggs, room temperature
- ¾ cup (120g) rainbow jimmies sprinkles
Vanilla Buttercream Frosting:
- 1 ½ cups (340g) unsalted butter, room temperature
- 6 cups (780g) powdered sugar, sifted
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- 4–6 tablespoons whole milk
- Make the cake: Preheat the oven. Prepare cake pans. Mix dry ingredients. Combine wet ingredients. Mix batter. Fold in sprinkles. Bake and cool.
- Make the buttercream frosting: Cream butter. Gradually add powdered sugar. Mix in salt, vanilla, and milk. Frost the cake.
