Main Ingredients
- 1 pound breakfast sausage
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 3/4 – 2 cups buttermilk
- 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup salted butter, melted
- Preheat oven to 450°F. Spray 9×9-inch glass or ceramic baking dish with nonstick spray.
- Cook breakfast sausage in large skillet over medium-high heat until no pink remains, 8-10 minutes. Drain on paper towels.
- Mix flour, sugar, and baking powder in medium bowl. Add buttermilk and stir until sticky batter forms, adding more buttermilk if needed. Gently stir in cheese and cooked sausage.
- Pour melted butter into prepared baking dish. Add biscuit dough on top and spread evenly. Cut dough into 9 squares.
- Bake on middle rack for 25-30 minutes, rotating once, until golden brown and toothpick comes out clean. Cover with foil if browning too quickly.
