For the Apples:

  • 4 to 5 tart apples (Granny Smith or Pink Lady)
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup Wondra flour
  • vegetable oil for frying
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/8 cup cinnamon

For the Dip:

  • 8 ounces cream cheese
  • 8 ounces Cool Whip or 1 cup whipping cream with ½ cup sugar, whipped until stiff
  • 1 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Apples: Heat vegetable oil in a fry pan or deep fryer. Mix buttermilk and sugar in a bowl. Peel, slice apples, and coat in the buttermilk mixture.
  2. Coat with Flour: Spread Wondra flour in a dish. Coat apples with flour.
  3. Fry the Apples: Fry coated apples until golden brown on both sides. Drain on paper towels and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar.
  4. Make the Dip: Blend cream cheese and Cool Whip, then stir in caramel sauce. Serve in a bowl with extra caramel drizzle.
