For the Apples:
- 4 to 5 tart apples (Granny Smith or Pink Lady)
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup Wondra flour
- vegetable oil for frying
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/8 cup cinnamon
For the Dip:
- 8 ounces cream cheese
- 8 ounces Cool Whip or 1 cup whipping cream with ½ cup sugar, whipped until stiff
- 1 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
- Prepare the Apples: Heat vegetable oil in a fry pan or deep fryer. Mix buttermilk and sugar in a bowl. Peel, slice apples, and coat in the buttermilk mixture.
- Coat with Flour: Spread Wondra flour in a dish. Coat apples with flour.
- Fry the Apples: Fry coated apples until golden brown on both sides. Drain on paper towels and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar.
- Make the Dip: Blend cream cheese and Cool Whip, then stir in caramel sauce. Serve in a bowl with extra caramel drizzle.
